Smile How many 2008s Out There? ... Post Bumper #

Hello S331 Owners,

I know it will be a while before we officially know from Saleen how many 2008's will be (or were) made, but I thought it would be interesting to see what the ranges of bumper #'s are out there so far?

Just purchased mine from Frontier Ford in Anacortes, WA a month ago ... what a terrific truck! A few minor problems I thought I would share and see if any of you had similar issues ... very small leak in fuel rail where pressure sensor is welded in, a vibration in rear tail pipe when at idle and a rough stumbling engine at cold start for about 20 seconds. In for warranty repair now.

Anyway, lets see what is out there ... mine is Bumper #21 (08-021). I think there will be a lot fewer 2008’s than 2007’s.

I own an '07 and I have the same exhaust rattle. I just haven't had the time to take it in to get it checked out.

Im curious as to how the sales are going for the S331's as well, considering that overall truck sales are down across the US.

Just found another 2008 on eBay tonight with starting a bid at $35,000 with 9 days to go:

Bumper #29 - Black SuperCrew at Rich Ford in Albuquerque, NM

Bumper #39 still the highest I have seen … feel free to add any other 2008’s you know about … still looks like a whole lot fewer 2008’s than 2007’s.

Well, nice to see another 2008 owner on the forum ... welcome 08S33130 ! ... this is a 2008 S331 SC from Knoxville, Tennessee, Bumper #30 (Now have found eight 2008 numbers so far: 11, 18, 21, 22, 24, 29, 30, 39)

BTW, at least for us 2008 owners, we have the mechanical fans and don't have to fight the issues the rest of you have had with the electric fans. I know we are losing a few HP, but sounds like it is worth it.

I saw the one on Ebay last night. That dealer will be sorely disappointed when he realizes that $60k is way out of the price range on these vehicles now. I asked him who would be honoring the warranty on the vehicle....he has not replied.

I'm not sure if this was in issue with the 08s but with my 07 the only issues Ive had were with the wiring for the electric fan. The fans draw too many amps when starting up, and caused my fuse to literally melt, not just blow. And my exhaust is starting to rattle a bit, but I guess this is getting off topic for this thread. I would just say that yes theres a few bugs in the truck probably but usually a pretty easy fix. Oh and my front tire camber was off a bit causing me to buy new front tires after 8000 miles! The inside tread had the steel belts showing through.

But anyways, congrats on the purchase and enjoy it! Don't be afraid to call JDM on some upgrades either. They really make a difference on the truck.

Deelito,

Congrats on being or newest '08 owner! These are great trucks. I can fully agree that the JDM kit makes a big performance improvement on these trucks! I am very happy with my kit ... and it came with a very easy to follow video install DVD.

The nice things about the '08s is a lot of the earlier kinks that the '07 owners had to deal with were solved (including the electric fan issue ... our trucks have the mechanical fans ... we lose a few hp, but no wiring or relay worries).

So the list of 13 "found" 08's is now: 11, 13, 18, 19, 21, 22, 24, 25, 29, 30, 33, 34, and 39. Still looks like 39 is highest 2008 so far ... feel free to add to the collection if you know of any.

Thanks guys!!!! looks like JDM is the place to go for sure!! Just seen their video on you tube, good stuff!!! Good info on the fan, thanks!!! ... as soon as I get some money for sure ill get the upgrade, but the only thing is that i like the filter housing currently on top of the engine, it has the big shinny SALEEN on it, i just notice on the pic all that has to go . i know the window sticker claims 450Hp but now am not to sure it actually does that from reading around the forum oh well i still love the truck..... Also what kind of insurance did u guys get?? i tried explaining progressive that its a Saleen, but they just told me that the VIN tells them everything and that is of course a Ford F150.....

Again thanks to everyone, am glad i found the club i don't feel to alone haha

Have a great day!!

Deelito,

Don't be sad that "all that has to go" ... I was concerned about the same thing and took the theme from my 2003 Harley F150 and designed the new badge shown in the link below ... while I would always support JDM's kit, I wanted that stock, OEM look ... even JDM thought it looked good.

Send me a PM ... I think I have a few more badges around ... I also have a bunch of round Saleen cigarette dome badges (like the oval one on your steering wheel, but sized for the cigarette lighter) that go over that ugly cigarette logo on the cigarette lighter.

My replacement Saleen air box logo for the JDM badge:

Just found another 2008 S331 SC on eBay with 8 days to go and a $39,500 “Buy it Now” price with 9,455 miles on it ... Oxford White and Black & Silver decals … being offered by Benfor Fine Autos in Houston, TX … it is #28. A great deal compared to what many of us paid for one new.

So the list of 14 "found" 08's is now: 11, 13, 18, 19, 21, 22, 24, 25, 28, 29, 30, 33, 34, and 39. Still looks like 39 is highest 2008 so far ... feel free to add to the collection if you know of any.

Saw Steve Saleen at the Ford Dealer in Tigard, OR last weekend for an opening of that dealer selling his new 2011 SMS Mustangs … there was a convertible and hardtop there … nice cars. I had him autograph my truck last year, but got an SMS poster autographed by him. There were about 30 Saleen’s there of all years, but mine was the only truck. In talking with Steve on his recollection of how many 2008 S331’s were built, he said “we didn’t build too many of them”. Interestingly, he said he has a white 2 door S331 in his personal collection.

Galaxie - I purchased that 2008 S331 white Crew Cab #28 ( JDM supercharger upgrade, superlift traction bars, 4:56 gears), traded my 2007 S331 N/A #12 for it. Appreciate all the info here.

Default 2008 Super Cab #38 Grey

Hello there. I am a new member and the proud owner of a 2008 S-331 Super Cab #38 in Dark Shadow Grey. Does anyone know if there is any other 2008 Super Cabs? I am yet to hear of one other then mine. Also spoke with rep at Saleen and he said that there was only 31 S-331's built in 2008 total and not all numbers were used. Anyway so happy to be a new member and look forward to making some new friends. Thanks

Interesting. I notice that no one seems to have spotted any single-digit S331s - is that true? i.e. #01-#09. So if there were 31 built, and they started numbering at #10, that would mean that #10-#40 exist. Just guessing here, but that would seem to be consistent with the numbers spotted so far. It is possible that they skipped bumper numbers in the middle of the list, but that still sounds unlikely to me.

I am interested in this, as we have received varying production numbers from Saleen on the 2008 S302Es (25 and 32 have been reported). Still trying to figure out which number is correct...

Cheers,
Chris.

Yeah thats a good point about the numbering. So I spoke with Saleen again today and they told me that there was only 1 Super Cab produced in 2008 and it was supposed to go to Australia but never made it. It was just traded in at Galpin Ford in Southern California on 09-13-11 and now its in my drive way. According to Saleen I have the only Super Cab in existance produced in 2008. Crazy huh? I am super excited and the truck onlu has 5600 miles on it. Could be worth some pretty good money one day in like 20 years. LOL Anyway, so it looks like only about 30 produced so if you have a 2008 S-331 do yourself a favor and stop driving it everyday and keep it, its a collectors item now guys.

I have Number 17 in Gray and I purchased it in 2008 at Galpin Ford in Nov of 2008. It is my daily driver and I love the truck. I am having some problems now with brake\rotor replacement. I've seen some posts but....not sure where to go. Directly to Saleen? Is there an alternative?

You can try Saleen and see what they have available.

Bill Vaughn at StopTech can also help -- he used to work at Saleen and also drives an S331, so he will be glad to help. They're in So. Cal. so they should be a quick resource.

Tell him Jim D. at SOEC sent you! :)

Thanks! StopTech called me. Gave the part numbers, now its just a matter of finding a StopTech Distributor that actually carries the parts. Wish me luck. I see Saleen advertises Brake Pads.

Sigh! I drive my truck daily. After reading some of the posts in this section with regard to parts....I'm not as encouraged to do that.

Thanks for all the help. Ryan at Stack Performance works on my SRT 8 Charger AND is a Stop Tech Distributor. They had two sets of rotors. (I'm gonna try to buy the other set just in case) Saleen told me they didn't have any...call Stop Tech!
