Blending it in is trickier than on a regular car. I LOVE the look of the special colored saleens but I'd never buy one myself.

You get the drift...insurance is brain damage too! People just can't figure out the "specialty" car issue from any direction. The customer service crisis in America can't get any worse...can it?? Anyhow, the GT500 is recognized by everything, and thus EASILY worked out. I'd rather not be like your friend who eventually sold his Saleen because he was too scared to drive it...GT500, three year bumper to bumper...five year powertrain...forged 5.4L...it all just seemed to pull me over to the other side. Good chance I'll be that "poser" guy that puts a Saleen body kit on a GT500 and do my own Saleen Cobra! (Wish Saleen would like they did on a few back in the day) Still love the Saleen and will always be an enthusiast...I'd love to stay this course...idea's anyone on these issues?? (e.g. financing, insurance, etc) Thanks all...for everything! |

I financed and insured it as a regular GT. I just paid the different in cash on the loan from what I negotiated them to. The credit union would give me 21k for a regular GT of that year and mileage, so I just spent 4k of my own for the rest.
For insurance, I gave the insurance agency all the information they requested and they insured it as a GT. Just have your Saleen cert with you VIN handy in-case something bad happens. Most insurance companies will cover it as modifications to the car. |

My insurance company (State Farm) has it insured as a Mustang GT. They also know & have the info on that it's a Saleen. They said that it can be tracked/proven as a Saleen so if anything ever happened to the car, it would get put back together the way it should be as a Saleen or replaced at the value of current Saleens with similar options/mileage etc. I guess they have several ways to do that.

I don't understand the issues with financing a Saleen. My credit union didn't care what the car or price was and didn't even blink when they saw the VIN was for a Mustang GT and that I was paying more than NADA value.
I have it insured as a GT with Allstate. State Farm said they would insure it as a saleen but it was over $3000 a year (and I have a perfect driving record). Have been thinking about switching to a collector car insurance since I hardly drive the car. I've only put 2k miles on it in 2 years.

As far as ins goes...I had some similar issues. What I did was first find a place that would ins a modified car. Second, come to an agreement on value. I had a local car appraiser give me a number, I sent it to the ins co and now the car is ins for that value. I'm currently using Allied/Nationwide and so far no issues. |

I really liked that Saleen/GT500, that was a hot car with the best of both worlds.

When I financed my Saleen with my credit union, I had to get a private appraisal that cost me $300.00. Because the car is not in the kelly blue book.
