Thumbs up Steve Saleen announces formation of SMS Limited

Dear SOEC Member,

We shared with you Steve Saleen’s retirement from Saleen Inc. and his new venture with ZXNA/Chamco Auto in the Autumn 2007 issue of Saleen Alley (soec.org/saleenalley), and his responsibilities there still progress. And while Steve still has a financial stake in Saleen, Inc., as an independent businessman he now has the opportunity to work on some projects that are focused in a different direction from those holding control of the company that bears his name. Officially announced March 13, Steve wanted us to share with you this exciting news about one of his new companies, SMS Limited, which is a little project he’s been working on in his spare time...

March 13, 2008 - Orange County, California. Steve Saleen announced today the formation of “SMS Limited,” Lifestyle Performance Automobiles, the pinnacle brand in his portfolio of companies. As a professional race driver and innovative businessman, Steve is well known as the founder of numerous Steve Saleen Brands including Saleen Autosport in 1983, Saleen Productions in 1993, Saleen Speedlab in 1997, Saleen Performance in 1999, Saleen, Inc. in 2001 and now SMS Limited in 2008. In the years of building the many brands, Mr. Saleen oversaw and participated in every aspect of the business, product development, sales and marketing. We are using this freedom, along with our new technology developed at SMS to create world-class specialty vehicles.”

“We are currently developing our Signature Series of ultra high performance vehicles and technical performance parts which will address the new American Muscle Car offerings”, discloses Mr. Saleen, “our charter focuses on delivering the best solutions at the best performance value to the varied world of the automotive enthusiast, be they Dodge, Chevrolet or Ford faithful.”

“Supercar fans will be delighted to learn about the all-new vehicles and new technology we are currently developing,” reveals Mr. Saleen “these cars will deliver superior performance and innovation for both the track day enthusiast and the passionate on-road driver.” Billy Tally, Chief Technical Officer, adds, “These vehicles have been engineered to meet the demands of the world’s most challenging race tracks.” Mr. Saleen continues, “Sportscar racing enthusiasts will be excited about the upcoming announcement of our return to racing in the American LeMans Series. You will hear more about that very soon.”

“Developing and manufacturing cars is one thing, but selling them is quite another” continues Mr. Saleen, “We will be bringing our new and unique automotive lifestyle retail experience to a number of global markets. Watch out for more interesting news on our distribution and retail plans in a few weeks.” Mr. Saleen concludes “The time is right; we have the talent, the new technology, the funding and the drive to achieve our goals. As a huge Saleen fan since 1984, I am disappointed to see Steve retire as I am sure many of you are. I am hoping they do not drastically change the DNA in what has created such a huge following for the cars.... now that Steve is no longer looking over the company with a magnifying glass. The team has done a great job with keeping the family resemblance throughout all the Saleen cars since 84. I love the 07 Saleen as I do the fox Saleen in which I grew up with. I am aware that they will continue to grow and change as a company. I just hope they will never lose touch of the days when there was just a few guys building 10-15 cars in their small Long Beach facility. Just thought of something, I am kind of annoyed that the 25th anniversary "Sterling Silver" edition aka SA-25 Saleen is Silver. What happened to the Saleen Racing colors black, white and yellow? All the SA-5,10,15 and 20 cars have keep this color scheme....why Silver with the SA-25?

Its silver because Silver is the color for 25th anniversary. I think that them making it the color a Saleen customer color is a bit much especially for the price IMO.

I will say that I think we're a few too many months off the calendar to have a 25th anniversary edition, but let's be clear that this car is not an SA-25 model, even though that's what some websites are calling it.

It is specifically called "The Saleen Sterling Edition" -- not the SA-25.

Of course, I'm not saying that the SA-25s will be Black, White and/or Yellow either.

But back to the subject of this thread -- while I proudly support Saleen Inc. and hope they succeed in their vision of what the brand should become, I am excited to see what Steve will bring to the hobby with his new ventures.

Question StarTrek - The Next Generation

It will be interesting to see a post-2009 Saleen Mustang (a non Phil Frank/ Steve Saleen designed version). How will a new interpretation appear and what will it deliver… hmmm.

If anything… all of this activity will give people something to talk about and debate.

I had heard that aswell that this is NOT the SA-25 and haven't heard as of yet if they are going to make an actual SA-25.
